Researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) found roughly 15,000 holes, averaging 36 feet in diameter and 3 feet in depth while doing research for potential wind farm sites.
Thousands of small round divots that have been scooped out of the soft ocean floor and two distinct sizes have been found in the Pacific Ocean just off the coast of Big Sur, California.
Scientist do not know yet how they were formed but many sea animals and creatures found the trash the builds up in the holes as perfect homes.
